Q: What are all the Components of a Wedding Invitation?
A: Wedding Invitation - A formal request describing the welcome to the event, the host's names, bride and groom's names, date, time, location of ceremony, and the names of parents of bride and groom (optional). If it is important to inform guests of the style of the wedding, this is added to the invitation (casual, semi-formal, or black tie)(optional).
Invitation Outer Envelope - this holds all enclosures, as well as the invitation.
Reception Card (optional) - if the reception is in a different location than the ceremony, this informs the guest of the location, date and/or time. If dinner is being served, the time can be included. If only cake and punch are being served, this can be included as well. If the ceremony and reception are being held at the same location, money can be saved by adding a line to the bottom of the invitation stating this (example: Reception immediately following ceremony)
Response Card (RSVP) - Consists of a card with a pre-addressed, pre-stamped envelope. This card has a line for the guests to write in the names of those attending and also shows the date when the card has to be sent back to the addressee by. If there is a choice of meal at the reception, this gets written on the RSVP card.
Direction Card (optional) - Includes complete directions to ceremony and/or reception. Can be written out directions, a map illustration, or both (one on each side of card).
Rehearsal Dinner Invitation (optional) - This invitation consists of the hosts, time, and location of the rehearsal dinner. May also include information regarding the actual wedding rehearsal. This card can be included with your invitations (only send to those invited to your rehearsal) or can be sent separately.
Q: What is the timeline for ordering invitations?
A: 6 to 12 months prior - order and send Save the Date Cards.
4 to 6 months prior - Schedule your consultation with JDK Invitations and order your invitations.
3 months prior - Don't stress if you didn't order your invitations 4 to 6 months in advance, we can work with less time, but get your
order in no less than 3 months beforehand.
6 to 8 weeks prior - Mail your invitations to your guests (add 2 weeks for international guests)
Now check the mail for your RSVP's!
***Your "RSVP by" date should be 2 weeks before your wedding, or a week before your caterer needs a headcount. This will allow you time to contact those who haven't RSVP'd (trust me, there will be some!).
Q: Why aren't your prices on your web site?
A: Please don't let this discourage you, we have a very wide range of pricing and work with all budgets.
Q: Can I bring an idea I found in a magazine to my consultation?
A: Yes! We encourage you to bring in any photos or pre-conceived ideas you may have. However, we will never duplicate someone else's work. The photos can be used as inspiration for your own custom wedding invitations.
Q: How do I make sure guests don't forget to write their names on the RSVP Cards?
A: Sometimes guests forget to write in their names on the RSVP card before sending them in. To easily identify the culprits, here is a good tip: Number your guest list and write each guests' coordinating number on their card.
